Highlands offers a traditional play-based program. For more than 50 years, Highlands Preschool has provided a warm and enriching environment to encourage and foster imagination and creativity.  We encourage children to explore, discover and grow and to take an active part in the world around them. Founded on the belief that children learn best through play, Highlands introduces students to monthly themes such as autumn colors and spring flowers. These themes are carried throughout the activities of the day, and the children are encouraged to learn and discover by experiencing and participating in play-based activities. It is through play that children learn independence; play-based activities build confidence, foster imagination, and teach reasoning and resourcefulness.

Our dedicated and caring teachers are truly committed to their students, and they work closely with the children and their parents to facilitate the children’s development and education. Highlands has a very active parent Board, and parental involvement in the school is not only encouraged but also highly valued. This involvement is an important part of what makes Highlands a special, supportive community. Building relationships, fostering camaraderie, and creating friendships are some of the things that we do best. Highlands celebrates diverse holidays, including Christmas, Cinco de Mayo, Hanukkah, Chinese New Year and others, in order to teach children the customs of different cultures.

At Highlands, we celebrate the spirit and uniqueness of each child by giving him or her the opportunity, every day, to feel challenged, celebrated, and valued. The teachers all have early childhood education credentials, in addition to many years of experience. Our teachers help to promote and develop basic social skills such as sharing, cooperation, and building relationships as they gently guide children towards Kindergarten readiness.

“Children have great value not for what they can become, but for what they are.” – Fred Rogers
